Burrowing Owls
Burrowing owls (Athene cunicularia) are small owls that raise thier young in burrows (often taking over a prairie dog burrow). Most burrowing owls migrate south each winter and return to Colorado in the early spring. Unfortunately, thier numers are declining and many states have listed them as species of concern.
